Are you Ready For Tomorrow’s Job Market?

by Jeff on May 21, 2009

Can you believe the top 10 in demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004

This is both exhilarating and frightening! Taking a look from the optimistic view, this is wildly exhilarating as times are changing with mind blowing speed. Technology is outdating positions as quickly as it is generating new ones. For that segment of the population who embraces change and is undaunted about the unknown, your time is coming and coming fast!

Staying in front of the curve in order to capitalize on opportunities is going to be the challenge. How are you going to accomplish this? What resources can you tap into to help you prepare? What can you do now to take advantage of this position down the road? Interesting times, indeed! Those agile, nimble, quick to react will be those able to take part in this technological revolution. Does this describe you?

On the other hand taking a look from the pessimistic view, this is extremely frightening. With jobs becoming obsolete at an alarming rate, feelings of discomfort at our ability to keep pace can overwhelm. We have seen a shift in loyalty on the part of the employer and the employee, which was unheard of less than a generation ago. Within the not so distant future, what will the employment landscape look like? Automation, outsourcing, technological computations, etc. will continue to improve efficiencies and reduce the cost of labor. If you are not excited about staying in front of the curve, you are going to have to get OK with it in order to keep your skills updated and competitive in this new economy.

The wheels of progress have been in motion for hundreds of years. Technology has changed our societies from agrarian to industrial and from industrial to technological. It is astonishing to think what the world will look like even five years from now. One thing is for certain. You must continue learning and evolving in order to have a productive part in it. By choosing to ignore or choosing to procrastinate, you will find yourself behind younger workers. Once behind, it will prove nearly impossible to catch up. Take the reins now and make that conscious decision to embrace the changes and continue to adapt to the changing world.
