SimplyHired Makes the List of Best Job Search Sites

by Sean on February 23, 2010

The internet is just one tool of many that you need to incorporate for a successful job search. Many sites promote themselves as the best job search sites on the web.  I beg to differ.  Recently, I wrote about Indeed, and the benefits that site provides.  Another on my short list of best job search sites is SimplyHired.

Simply Hired is on the list of best job search sites for a few key reasons:

  1. It is easy to use.  Similar to Indeed, it also has primary fields in job title and location, and it pulls from other job boards for a convenient one stop shop.  Once these two important pieces of information are provided, the results are quick.  For example, if you are looking for Operations Management positions in Phoenix, Arizona, you will find over 4,300 positions are available.  Of course, this number is much too large to research requiring you to narrow the results.  To do this, I added the key word “distribution” to Operations Management and kept my location the same in Phoenix, Arizona.  This search resulted in a reduction of over 90% to a more manageable number of 356 open postings.
  2. You can filter by specific company.  Going back to our example of our keyword search of “distribution operations management” in Phoenix, AZ, there are 34 posted positions within Home Depot and 16 at IBM.  I always recommend you have a target list of potential employers that you work from.  You can cross reference your target list on this website for specific results.
  3. You can narrow your search by using special filters, which is really cool!  Some of the special filters include: Fortune 500; giving preference toward veterans; being friendly toward moms; appreciating diversity, etc. This is valuable information! Where else are you going to find this, unless you have relationships on the inside of the company?  Even then, can you trust it?  Simply Hired offers a questionnaire to the employer and they complete it based on their culture and preferences.  Way cool!

Honestly, as an employment coach, I am never going to recommend that you rely on the web exclusively to find your next position.  A small percentage of folks do and have had decent results.  Yet, to be truly successful in getting your best fit job, your job search strategy needs a balance of online and offline tactics.  Looking at best job search sites is just one tactic in your online strategy.  What are the best job search sites that you have used?  Your recommendations and feedback is appreciated to maintain content relevant to your job search.
